Right after
my final evaluation for the summer French classes, I went to Munich. The train
leaves Lausanne Gare at 3:45, and catches a connection in Zurich to get to
Munich. It’s a 7 hour trip and this is the last journey of the day. In theory,
she would finish her exam and have 30 mins to get to the main trains station,
which would be tight but enough time. Well, it ran late. She had less than 20
mins to get from the classroom to the train meaning I stood at the door of the
train debating which fake problem would stall the train the longest: fainting
or seizure. 2 minutes! She made it into the train 2 minutes before it left for
an international trip. Woohoo! Off to biergartens we went!
Saturday I
got to spend the day with Olya and Nico, my cousins, and their beautiful baby
boy, Michael. Eloise, Chris, and the four of us went for a walk and then a
biergarten for lunch. In the English Gardens we saw surfers… surfing. The
little river narrowed as it entered the gardens so the current was quite strong
and they could stay in the same sport if they were good enough. Strange to see
surfing on a river in the middle of the city, but it works!
The other
three days consisted of touristy things in the morning (walking tour, bike
rentals) and foor+beer in the afternoon and evening. I had enough meat over
those four days to last me at the very least till Octoberfest, but man oh man!
Is the food ever cheap here! I guess I’m comparing to meat in Switzerland,
which is actually too expensive to buy and I’ve become an obligate vegetarian
when cooking for myself (I’ll eat others’ meat just fine).
Munich was
even nicer than the last time I was here, and I am starting to really like this
city. Good thing Chris is here and I have a good excuse to visit ;)
*While this should be a photo blog, this one will be photoless for the time being - I'm in awesomeland away from the munich photos but fear not! soon...
