My prep
french courses are all done, though we still had the final exam this Friday. So
once we handed all our work in on Tuesdsay we had a couple days to spend in any
way we wanted.
Eloise
decided she didn't want to sit around; she wanted to go exploring, even if just
for the day. So Wednesday was errand and Ikea day, then Thursday was up for
grabs. Instead of going to Annecy like we had originally planned, we had
decided to go for a long walk.
We would
take the train from Laussane Gare to St.Saphorin, walk around the supposedly
quaint little town and then walk for 2-3 hours through wine country to Culley,
where we would get back on a train and go home. Did you guess yet that that's not
what happened?
So the
train doesn't stop at St. Saphorin, or Culley. The train arrived at Vevey, the
next stop after Laussane. We somehow didn't tune in that we'd missed where we
wanted to go until the train pulls into Montreau. So we got off, looked at each
other, and walked to the tourists’ office for a map.
We walked
around the seawall to the castle. We had gotten a little too warm on the walk
over so when we saw a beach with people bathing we thought, why not? We got a
little further from the rest of the people, slipped into something a little
more comfortable, and waded in. NOT as warm as expected, but still went in for
a dunk. Was extremely refreshing.
As we
walked up the path to the castle, right in the castle's window we had
previously assumed was boarded up or something, was a woman taking photos of
where we had just bathed in the barely-clothed attire. hmmmmm
The rest of
the city was fairly old-styled with winding streets and beautiful windows.
Before we left, we stopped at an ice-cream shop that had a view that reminded
me of Israel. I recommend this place, but only with the swimming
component.
Now I'm off to Munich with Eloise. 7 hour train ride here I come!
